Happy Birthday Madelynne, I can't believe you are 6. You are the most amazing 6 year old and we love you sooooo much.

Maddie is my little princess through and through! Every day she loves to dress up. Adorn herself with jewelrey and makeup. Put on music and sing and dance. She is the biggest help with Hudson. She is going into 1st grade and she can't wait. She LOVES school. She also loves the color pink, playing with friends and helping out! She is the best! P.S. She was sooooo set that she wanted a pink piggy cake, but I don't bake. so my sweet neighbor came through! Thanks Patty!

Here I am in the end of April and I am just now posting about Hudson turning ONE. I think part of it is that I am in denial. Time goes by SO, SO, SO fast and I can't believe that I don't have a little baby at my house anymore. It is very bittersweet. It is a strange thought that I have changed diapers almost 8 strait years. I have had at least one crib in my home for as long as I can remember and all those phases are slowly coming to an end. That said, I couldn't ask for a sweeter child to end on. Hudson is so fun to have around. He is funny and makes us all laugh. He is into EVERYTHING. By far the most active and destructive child as of yet. But, so fun to have around and the other kids absolutely adore him. We love him to pieces and can't imaging our world without him. We love you baby Hudson.

Carribean DAY 1 and 2

Florida

Obviously on Day 1 we were in flight most of the time. We landed in Ft. Lauderdale and played in the warm air that night. The next day we wanted to give our kids an alligator adventure so we headed out to some podunk (Is that how you spell it) alligator Indian farm. This was an adventure that definitley topped our list. We first took an airboat ride. Morgan hated it and cried most of the time. It was really loud and we thought we might fly out. But, the other kids loved it.

Next they took us back to the Indian Village. It was basically an alligator farm. Tons of Alligators, turtles, wild boars and artifacts.

This guy did an alligator show and he was puting his hand in the open mouth. Then he took us over to a pen of small gators and handed them to us and said "Here don't let go or they will bite you."

Day 3 and 4

Boat Days...

The first two days aboard the ship were sailing days. The kids spent a ton of time in the pool. But, they also had face painting, and XBox room, Cookie decorating, game room, and tons more for the kids to do.

Day 5

Grande Turk-

Grand Turke was a beach day. We relaxed on the beach, snorkeled, Madelynne got her hair braided and we just soaked up the sun.

The kids were enjoying the sand, but I didn't have any sand toys. I went to the little gift shop by the beach and they wanted $15.00 for a small plastic bucket. So I went to a little smoothie shop to get plastic cups for the kids to build a castle, they charges me $1.00 per cup... They were EMPTY! Reminder, next time pack a bucket from home.

Day 6

Porto Rico-

This was the favorite spot for Ryan and I. We loved all the history, the colorful buildings, the cobblestone streets, and the amazing trees. Ryan said a lot of it reminded him of Italy. Hopefully I will see for myself some day. But, for now I will just dream of Porto Rico. Porto Rico is famous for its "Forts" they have two forts that are adjacent to one another in San Juan. They were meant long ago to protect the island from intruders. They were fully equiped with Cannons, hideouts and sleeping grounds. It was amazing.

After the fort we all went our seperate ways and explored the Old San Juan. Tons of great shopping, although it was really expensive. I should have saved my money for St. Thomas. We walked through the town and found hundreds of pigeons. I had packs of cereal with us so we let the kids feed them. A little bit scary but the kids loved it.

On the way back to port we toured a pirate ship. It was the same ship that was used in the film
"Pirates of the Carribean" and in the "Spongebob Movie."

Day 7....

At Sea

Day 7 was a day at sea. We had a lot of fun on the boat. The food was amazing and abundant. Everyone was willing to try new things. Harrison loved escargot and Madelynne loved Patte (Goose Liver). Yuck! But, it was fun to watch them experience new things. I loved the Alaskan Crab and wished they served it every night.

Each night when we got back to our rooms they made animals out of towels. It was an adult trip that was so perfect for kids.

Day 8...

ST Thomas...

We loved St Thomas. I wished we had more time to stay and explore the towns. Once we got off the ship the kids loved it because everywhere you looked you would see huge iguanas and chickens.

We got off the boat and went to Cokie Beach. This beach was so great for Morgan. She could stand in the ocean up to her waist and be surrounded by fish. We bought dog biscuits and if you hold it under the water the fish will come eat out of your hands.

Right next to the beach was a small aquarium. The aquarium had a huge enclosure that allowed you to go down some stairs and be under the sea. You were able to see all the ocean life without snorkeling. This was perfect for Morgan.

DaY 9....

Day 9 was by far Harrison's favorite day. We landed on Half Moon Cay which is Holland Americas island. Such wonderful white sand beaches. We signed up for the sting ray excursion and the kids were able to swim, touch and play with the sting rays.

After the sting rays we headed to the beach. They had slides that went into the ocean, play features in the water and tons of sea life for Harrison to find. The kids spent most of the day searching for crabs. Midday Harrison spotted an octopus. Luckily a brave dad and some other kids helped Harrison get it out of the rocks and into a bucket. While they were getting it into the bucket it inked Harrison and he thought that was awesome. We all let it suction to out fingers before we let it go. It quickly changed colors to camouflage itself and disappeared. An experience we will never forget.

We were so sad to say fairwell to such a fabulous vacation. This was the first vacation I wasn't ready to leave. Everyone had such an awesome time. I am already planning to return.

We had to depart the ship around 10 and our flight was not until 5 so we had some time to kill. Madelynne had an earache and we were nervous to fly without some sort of relief so we headed into Ft. Lauderdale to find an insta-care or a pharmacy to see what they could suggest. It was Saturday and we couldn't find a clinic open so we headed to Walgreens. We found the closest one and lets just say we were way out of element. The pharmacist had corn rows, really corn rows... and they were all yelling at each other. We were the only white people in town. Lets just say that all of us in a mini-van with blonde hair and blue eyes stood out like a sore thumb. After we got some numbing drops we got out of dodge and to what we felt like was safer ground.

After a bit of a drive we finally found "The Cheesecake Factory" and a mall. So we wasted the rest of the afternoon eating and shopping. Great end to a great vacation.

I can't believe out little princess is turning 5! Time is going by too fast. Madelynne we are so proud of who you are and everthing you do. You are such a sweey sister and daughter and we are so greatful you were given to us. We love you!

Madelynne had such a fun birthday party at Bailie's gymnastics. This is one of her favorite places to be and she loved that she could have all her friends come to the gym.

4th of July

The fourth of July is one of our families favorite holidays. We spend the whole weekend in Oakley: parade. rodeo, fireworks, cabin, ride horses and spend the time with family. We love it.

Seriously... he caught another chicken. Luckily we were able to convince him to turn it in for money. Somehow he conned us into buying him a $50 bionicle in exchange. This kid is smart!

Madelynne wouldn't take her cowgirl hat off the whole day. She thinks she is a real cowgirl.

Morgan loves the horses. Maybe someday we can get one for our girls. For now I will just keep wishing. (This is a subtle hint for my dad, your grandaughters really want a horse).

Harrison lost his two front teeth

Harrison lost his first tooth a few weeks ago and then last week his second tooth was loose. He decided to hook a string to a remote control car and pull it out that way.

Hudson is HOME

Hudson was finally allowed to leave the NICU on March 9, 2010, which was his actual due date. He spent 10 long, long days in the NICU and our family was not sure how much more we would be able to endure. On the 7th day of the NICU his oxgen levels dropped again and he had to go back on Oxygen, but only for a short time. However, since he had this "episode" as they call it, he had to remain in the NICU for at least 48 hours to ensure he could maintain his levels by himself. Finally on the 10th day he was ready to join us at home.We were all so happy to have him home. They sent us home with an oxygen monitor and oxygen so that we would be well prepared if his O2 levels dropped while we were at home. However, we are happy he has maintained his levels and we haven't had to use the oxygen.

The kids were so happy to have him home. Harrison thinks it is "way cool" to finally have a brother and not be the only boy. Madelynne can't get enough and she always wants to hold him, love him, feed him, burp him and would just prefer it if Ryan and I were out of the picture. Morgan also thinks he is great. She is much more gentle than I thought she would be. She likes ot hold him for about 1 minute and she likes to pet him on the head.

We are so greatful to have Hudson in our lives. Welcome Home!

Baby Update

As many of you may know our new little baby boy was born on Sat. February 27th at around 2:00. He was 6lbs 8 oz. and 19 inches long. However, shortly after delivery our little guy was having some struggles breathing. After some examinations he was determined to be in respiratory distress and was sent to the NICU for further examination. After many tests it was determined that he had developed pneumonia. With his struggles to breath he was immediately put on a ventilator to assist in his breathing and started on multiple IV's which delivered antibiotics, fluids and oxygen to his system. Since Saturday his condition has been improving and we were able to take him off the ventilator this afternoon. We are hopeful that his little body will continue to respond positively to the treatment and continue to recover. We are anxious to bring him home and hoping that we will be able to do so in a week or two.
We are so appreciative of all the love and support that everyone has shown us through this emotional time. We are thankful that we have so many great friends and family members that have been their for us. We ask that everyone will keep Hudson in your prayers. Thanks for everything you are doing for us. We will continue to keep you posted on his recovery and hopefully post some pictures soon.
Mom and Dad are a bit of an emotional basket case, but are doing well.

Fun Dip

I am not sure who thought Fun Dip was a good idea. It certainly could not have been a mother of 3, or at least not this one. Anyhow, Ryan is among those that still thinks it is great. He brought Fun Dip home for the kids. Obviously he doesn't see this as a problem becuase he can give the kids this great treat and then leave for work. This is the result.... and by the way it won't come off.

But, needless to say Morgaan LOVED it!

I can't believe that 2 years has already gone by.

Morgan has been such a blessing in our lives and she makes us laugh every day.

She is really starting to talk, she loves to say

and she loves to sing "birthday to you"

She also loves to dance and will dance at the sound of any music, sadly though she prefers rap

She also loves animals, dolls and teasing Harrison and Madelynne.

Boy of Girl?

Last Monday our family went for our 20 week ultrasound and the kids were able to see the baby. We all had a vote of the gender before going in, and Madelynne and Harrison both guessed boy and they were right.

WE ARE HAVING A BOY!!!!!!!

The baby looked right on track and everything looked great. We were able to get our ultrasound done by 2 high risk doctors who confirmed everything looked great. We weren't worried, but even still what a relief.

We are getting excited to bring our new addition into our family. I am still sick at least every other night but that is a big step up from every night.

We are all really excited and so happy that we will have 2 girls and 2 boys!

I am greatful to have such a wonderful family.

Winkers

Ok so I am officially freaked out. Has anyone else heard of Winkers? These are the ugliest things I have ever seen in my life. If anyone owns a pair of these they should be shot. The concept of the pants is that they will WINK when you walk. I am sorry but if the design of your jeans is manipulated by the creases in your body, then they should not be worn unless you are a magician or in the circus or as said above, want to be shot.

Every September a wierd feeling comes over me. It is a feeling of joy and sadness all clumped into one not so easy to explain feeling. But, I guess for those of you with kids you may totally understand. Every year when my oldest child turns one year older, I am overwhelmingly proud of all of his accomplishments, sad that another year has gone by so fast and grasping at how I can hold onto this time in my/my kids lives. I want to cherish every moment, but some of it comes and goes so quickly.

Anyways, as I have been reflecting over the last 6 years of Harrisons life I am so proud of the person that he is. It is not hard to see the kindness in his heart, and I love that he is so thoughtful. I love watching the reaction in his eyes and the story that they tell. He will light up the minute he thinks of a great idea, something funny to say or the anwer to a hard question. He still hates most foods, or I should say the texture of most foods. We make him try everything at least once, but I think his opinion is made up at first sight. He thinks girls are gross and all contact sports are cool. He is a bit shy but very clever and one of the funniest kids I know. We love you Harrison. Happy Birthday.

We took Harrison and some friends to Jump on It for his Birthday and we all had a wonderful time. What a great place for a party. Thanks Alli for the suggestion!

Out little Maddy just turned 4. We are so proud of her. Happy Birthday and we love you very much!Madelynne insisted that we should buy her a pony for her birthday. However we decided a better plan was to just have ponies at the party. My wonderful cousin Dee agreed to bring 2 of her mini ponies for Madelynne and a few friends to ride. They had a great time and Madelynne can't stop talking about the ponies. Thanks Dee!

The 4th of July

In my family we love the 4th of July. We always go to Oakley and see our extended family. The kids get to play with cousins. They race for chickens, ride sheep, go to the parade and spend the night at the cabin.

This year we were lucky enough to have Harrison catch a chicken.
If anyone wants a chicken please let us know. Her name is Cody. She is very sweet and nonshedding. She is great with children, and is well adjusted to the outdoors. If you are interested please come and get her immediatley...she may even produce eggs (not sure yet).

As most of you know we have a "nature park" in our backyard. Last year we had a fox with 2 babies and this year we have been greeted by a mommy dear and her 2 fawns. Look how cute they are... The mommy is very attentive, she stands watch over her babies, nurses them and seems very protective. They kids love watching them.

I am not sure who this guy is but he has been hanging around too, and we kind of like him.

Soccer 2009

Madelynne and Harrison both played spring soccer . This was Madelynnes first time playing and I am not sure she loved it. Harrison has played several seasons and he can't wait for the next. Here are a few pictures from the games.

These 2 pictures basically sum up Madelynnes soccer experience. Needless to say she didn't love it. She really enjoyed skipping down the field and people watching. But, I am not sure soccer is her thing.

Once in a while she would start running and we were hopeful....
But, most important she did have fun and she loved playing with her buddy Easton!

St George

I had a great weekend in St George. Pedicures, Shopping, Laying out at the pool... what could be better... oh yeah, no husbands or kids. Although I did miss them it was so nice to have a break. Ryan was great too, I came home and he had surprised me with a spottless house, planted a new garden for me that I have wanted forever, not to mention that he was home with a sick baby all weekend. He is the best!

Sweet Confused Madelynne

We took the kids on the tour of the Draper temple. We tried to explain a little bit about the temple to the kids as we were going through. Again and again Madelynne kept hearing about being "sealed" in the temple. Finally she turned to me and asked "Mom... so where are the seals." Poor girl was a bit dissapointed when she realized the temple does not provide any rollercoasters, or animals.

Snow Day

Normally I hate the snow and I hate the plows. Well, I still hate them both however, today they worked in my favor. It snowed tons (which I hate) and the plows didn't show up, or if they did they didn't do a very good job (which I hate). So my dad decided to get the 4 wheeler out and pull the kids around in the circle. It was a blast.

Sorry for the picture overload. We had a great time in Florida. We wen to Disney world which was fun. Crowded and a bit overwhelming with an 11 month old baby. But, Harrison and Madelynne loved it. Except for It's a small world... Harrison said that it was way to much singing and it gave him a headache. We also went to the zoo which was great. We were able to feed a ton of the animals. We fished and canoed in Grandpas backyard, although despite the many hours spent fishing nothing was caught. We also did the beach and playground. The boys were also able to go to the buc's game and spend most of the game on the sidelines thanks to Shelton Quarles. While the boys were at the game the girls enjoyed some much needed relaxation and pedicures. We had a great time. Thanks Todd and Jane for the great Thanksgiving.

Don't Lie to your kids... You will get caught!

The kids went to Grandmas house Sunday afternoon. When we came to pick up the kids Ryan thought it would be real fun to tell them that we just got back from the North Pole. He told them all about how we saw Santa and told him what the kids wanted for Christmas and that they were being really good. I thought to myself, my husband is kind of an idiot but what is the harm.
It wasn't until later that night when Harrison started asking me questions that I realized I have been right all along, my husband is an idiot.
Harrison first asks if elves wear ear muffs. I responded and said that I didn't know I had never actually seen an elf.
Harrison sort of smugly said "well you should know,you were at the North Pole
today."
After a few more interrogating questions from my little boy, and some ongoing studdering on my part, Harrison then said "mom, just tell me the truth, if you really didn't go to the North Pole I won't be mad at you."
How could I give into the deception we had created, so I once again assured him we did go to the North Pole.
One lie led to another and another and another.
So, I am still not sure if the kids believe that we went to the North Pole of not but the moral to the story don't lie to your kids, you will get caught.

P.S. My husband did read and approve this post, I think he must agree that he is an idiot too.
P.S.S. This is the idiot husband writing now.... and I don't know if I'm the bigger idiot or my wife who has trouble answering simple questions from a 5-year old. I think Holly's hopes of being on "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader," have been crushed. However, I do agree with the moral of the story, "don't lie to your kids."

I don't know what it is about pumpkins but Morgan was obsessed. Whenever she would see a pumpkin she would crawl over to it and give it a hug. I tried to wear orange thinking she would do the same to me, but it didn't have the same effect.

Annual Hunting with the Wilde's

For all you animal lovers, don't worry. Ryan and Harrison did not get a deer this year. I really feel like "hunting" is just a fancy meaning for getting away from the wife. We will visit the hunters on occasion and funny enough they are usually sitting or sleeping on top of the hill. Also, I can't tell you how many years it has been since they got a deer. I have also heard many of them at the end of the season say they are glad they did not get a deer. So, if this is how they truly feel why don't they just say they are going on a hike for a couple of weeks and just admit they need a nap.
Anyhow, the boys do love this and somehow they have brainwashed Harrison early because he seams totally sold on the concept. So, the boys had a great weekend of hunting, fishing and herding cattle.

Halloween is here..

Our family loves Halloween and so we decided on our fall snow day that we would make treats. Some of you were able to try them. They were super easy and fun to make. The kids had a blast. Some of you have requested the recipe so here it is.

Melt 1 package of white chocolate chips in a double boiler
When the choc. is melted add 2 tbs. Olive Oil (this will make it easy to work with and give it a glossy look)
Use a spoon to spread the choc. on wax paper into a ghost shape
Add a popcycle stick and chocolate chip eyes
Put in your fridge for 5 minutes and enjoy

T-rex is the newest addition to our family. I bet you can guess who named him... He will be later known as Rex once the dino stage is over. I know that most of you are thinking that we are totally nuts and I will agree with you. But, he is a really good dog. He is a 4 month old Havanese. So far he has been great with the kids. Madelynne is obsessed with him and if we would let her she would hold him 24/7. Harrison thinks he is cool but would prefer if he could wrestle. Morgan and the dog luckily keep away from each other which is good because they are basically the exact same size. The biggest problem is keeping Morgan away from the dog treats. She won't touch the green peas, yet dogfood is not a problem (I should really check the nutritional content this could be a win/win). He is a super mellow dog, he doesn't shed and he likes to follow us around everywhere. Which is sometimes annoying and sometimes sweet. Anyway, this is the mighty T-REX!

Snowbird

We had a great time in Snowbird. The kids rode the alpine slide, got a balloon from a clown, bounced in the bounce house, jumped on the tramp, climbed the rock wall and fished. They loved spending time with Grandpa and Grandma, Nate, Amy and Lilli. It was a great overnight trip.

However, Morgan missed out on some of the fun.

The kids were excited to have their faces painted.

Harrison and Grandpa John caught a lot of fish, Ryan caught none. He is still a little sad about that.

Madelynne was fascinated by the fish.

Morgan missed out on more fun.

Harrison was a rock star on the climbing wall.

Madelynne loved flipping over and over on the tramp.

The Draper Fire

As many of you know the Corner Canyon Fire in Draper was burning just a short distance from our home. So, we were able to capture the action from our back deck. The kids were facinated with all the planes, helicopters and firefighters.

Summer Recap

Of course the summer would not be complete without the Oakley rodeo and Parade. Harrison and Madelynne gathered candy at the parade, spent some time four wheeling at the cabin, and Harrison rode a sheep. He got bucked off but like a true cowboy brushed the dirt off and gave his mom a hug.

We love the Children's Gardens and the regular Gardens at Thanksgiving point.

We did the slippin' slide on a regular basis. To them it doesn't matter if it is 70 degrees or 100 degrees, water is great.

The kids took a cooking class and loved every minute of it. As you may have guessed Harrison would not even try a bite. But, Madelynne on the other hand gobbled it up.

Summer Sports 2008

The summer has gone by so quickly.

Here are a few things we have been doing...

Harrison and Madelynne have been involved in swimming lessons and are doing great. They love the water and can both swim short distances all by themselves. I think the key is the goggles, they are loved inside, or outside the pool.

Harrison played soccer and had so much fun. He scored tons of goals and loved having his dad coach the team.

Madelynne started gymnastics and is having a great time. She loves the trampoline and tumbling on the floor.

Morgan learned to crawl shortly after she was 6 months old. She has kept us on our toes ever since.

This summer has been so much fun. It is really exciting to watch them develop their own interests and to experience so many things for the first time.

The Blog

The reasons I have not blogged in the past start with privacy, which is important. However the second and more relevant reason is because I can't make up my mind on anything. I have now changed this post over 5 times and the background of my blog over 30, and yet I came back to one of the first backgrounds chosen. I am dedicated to posting updates at least once every few months and I will change it many times over that course. So, this may end up being one of the most frustrating things I have ever chosen to dedicate myself to. With that being said, in spite of my indecisiveness and OCD I would love to be able to share some of our families experiences with those that are not as close in distance. I hope you enjoy this and are not as frustrated with my blog as I am.
